At Coca-Cola, we believe in helping Canadians make informed, balanced decisions on what to drink as part of their healthy lifestyles. Coca-Cola beverages offer a moment of fun and refreshment. It’s a lifestyle we encourage, and one we help advance through our long-standing support of programs that foster fun and physical activity.

It’s all about balance

People need food and beverages to nourish, replenish and refresh themselves, and all foods and beverages can be a part of a healthy, active lifestyle.  As long as calories consumed do not exceed calories burned, soft drinks, like any other fun foods and beverages, can be part of a healthy diet.

In 2004, the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies of Sciences (IOM/NAS) issued new recommendations for fluid intake (including fluid from all beverages and foods).  After careful review of all of the research related to hydration, including several important new studies, the IOM/NAS has concluded that all foods and beverages, including caffeinated beverages, contribute to hydration. For more information on hydration, please visit The Beverage Institute for Health and Wellness.

Beyond the basic function of hydration, beverages may provide refreshment and energy, as well as vital nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, protein and carbohydrates. However, when making beverages choices, it is important for people to consider the balance between their caloric intake and physical activity in order to manage their weight and to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Choice and variety

What Canadians want and need is at the heart of our business.  At Coca-Cola, we play a role in contributing to the health and wellness of Canadians by providing choice through a wide variety of beverages, such as water, juice, juice drinks, iced teas, sports drinks and soft drinks.  Today the Coca-Cola system has more than 80 products, with nearly 40 of them light and low-calorie options.  This choice ensures that consumers can select the right type of beverage – in the right package and size – to meet their lifestyle needs.

As important as offering a variety of choice is providing consumers with the facts they need to make an informed decision. We adhere to Health Canada’s Mandatory Nutritional Labeling requirements on all of our products.

Naturally, people want to have confidence in their favourite beverages. We understand that you may have concerns and that you place a priority on being healthy and fit. Click on this link to get answers to some of the most commonly asked questions about your health and beverages.

You can also visit the The Beverage Institute For Health & Wellness, which supports nutrition research, education and outreach, with a primary focus on beverages. The Beverage Institute is responsible for evaluating emerging wellness trends and ingredients on behalf of The Coca-Cola Company, conducting clinical research in support of Company brands and establishing research programs that lay the foundation for the development of new beverages to meet the nutritional and wellness needs of consumers.
